Self-development is everywhere. How not to go crazy?
We've been talking about healthy and unhealthy self-development for some time now. The number of speculators inviting you to webinars that will change your life, or motivational writers for whom the only motivation is just such a quick profit, is still increasing. Why is this so and how to find your way around it all?
Self-development pays off. A lot.
Perhaps you too have fallen into the trap of sophisticated marketing that promised to change your life.
Fake online gurus with gelled hair and shiny teeth at whiteboards or faces glued to their cell phone cameras attack from all sponsored posts on social networks. And all this with one goal - to make money from you.
And so, if you were hoping that your life would change overnight - spoiler alert - it probably won't happen when you clicked on the red flashing "I'm going to do it" button. The only thing that happens in the end is endless disappointment.
What unites these fake internet kings? The most key factor is choosing a suitable topic, be it in the field of health, relationships or business, through which they can easily address their target group - i.e. people who are often at a personal or professional crossroads, lost in uncertainty.
Another condition for their success is sophisticated marketing based on selling dreams and illusions, such as earning six-figure sums and thus securing that eternally sought-after financial freedom.
Self-development alone will not make you a better person
Self-development or self-improvement is quite literal in its meaning - it is used to improve oneself. Not to replace him. If we want to replace who we are with something else, we will ultimately never succeed. We're just more likely to be drawn into nonsense and pseudoscience.
And instead of facing our feelings of inferiority or lack, we suppress them.
No books or courses will make us a better person. We are already good people. And that with all the flaws and limitations.
This awareness is the cornerstone of healthy personal development. It is also useful to consider at the outset your expectations, timing and motivation behind the need for change. There are no quick solutions. On the contrary, almost all working techniques require gradual steps and time.
