After three books about the Tatra mountain huts, high-altitude porters and Slovak trail markers, which searched for stories high up on the ridges, this time we came back down. Below the peaks, into everyday valleys and to places we usually just pass by.
We'll take you to ten regions of Slovakia you won't find in the usual guidebooks: among vineyards laced with stone walls hundreds of years old, to the sand dunes of Záhorie where red deer bellow, into kitchens that cook only what grows within a few kilometres, and beneath the dark skies of Poloniny, with the quietest night in Central Europe.
This is not a tourist guidebook. Your guides are locals who know where to turn: winemakers, cooks, historians, architects, astronomers and woodcutters. Each in their own place and each with their own story.

Who worked on the book?
This book is the result of a shared effort by a group of people who love Slovakia and want to share what is truly, trulyyy precious at home with others.

Each chapter has four parts: our experiences from the trip, a meeting with a local guide, an interview and an extra tip on where else to go in the region.
What else should you know about it?
We could have made an ordinary book. A two-euro paperback printed on standard white paper. But that wouldn't be us. We love paper. So we decided to make a real collector's piece.

Carbon footprint
Even a paper book has a footprint. We calculated it for the whole of 2025 and divided it per item: DEFRA 2025 emission factors, transport by parcels, services and marketing by spend (GHG Protocol). We keep refining the method together with our suppliers.

What we do about it
- We print in Slovakia and Czechia. No air freight. Our warehouse sits next to the printer in Orava, so finished products do not travel for nothing.
- We do not shrink-wrap diaries one by one. We use bulk packaging to cut down on plastic.
- We ship in recycled cardboard and, when we can, in boxes our suppliers sent us goods in.
- For trips and small transfers we book shared transport and BlaBlaCar.
- We print to pre-orders. If something does not sell, it does not end up in the bin but in our outlet or in schools.
What you can do
- Order more things at once. One parcel instead of three.
- Choose a pickup point or locker instead of home delivery. So the courier does not drive out for a single parcel.
- Buy second quality and sale items. We also work with production seconds. Everything usable is cheaper in our second quality section. You save money and rescue something that would not get a chance elsewhere.
- Buy only what you will really use. The smallest footprint belongs to the diary that never had to be made.
